Often when we cover old games, we do so from a comfortable perspective of “oh, sure, this game was remarkable at the time, but it hasn’t aged well and doesn’t hold up decades later”, but I don’t think even that’s true of this game. It holds the Guinness World Record for “highest rated shooter.” And yet, for the life of me, I have never understood why everyone has so much love for Half Life 2. The Guardian called it the best game of the decade. Games that are in desperate need of…a Second Opinion. Games that everyone always makes the exact same comments about. Games whose actual qualities have been buried in a narrative, whether good or bad. Games that everyone has an opinion on, regardless of whether they’ve played them or not.
